Part One
C-Class Tournament Finals
Now then, the finals at last… only two matches, but still the finals.
Naoto Akai
C-Class rank 12
LV44 Otherworld Gardener Haru Value 6700
LV42 Archmage Yuria Value 6700
LV37 Archmage Lyuka Value 6400
LV39 Otherworld Wind User Kanan Value 6400
LV38 Beastkin Nekomata Adelia Value 6400
LV39 Otherworld Dancing Princess Maika Value 6400
Lasheid
C-Class rank 1
LV50 Beastkin Moon Rabbit Amira Value 6800
LV50 White Knight Emina Value 5200
LV50 Black Knight Namie Value 5200
Hmm, both values and LVs are high… Amira's value… isn't this base-value 4800, UR-Class?
Her looks were quite something too. The kind of cuteness that made you want to say "I've seen this one in an anime."
Honestly, this was a level where I'd say I wanted her.
… Of course, I didn't want her enough to drop a current member.
… I had to make B-Class quickly.
Going forward, when I really did meet a Garumon I wanted, I wouldn't be able to take her in…
Lasheid wasn't all talk. He was probably an opponent stronger than Nezu. This looked like it'd be a tough fight.
"Hmph… I watched your earlier match. You've assembled high-quality Garumon impressively well.
"Winning against you while conserving forces is going to take some doing."
… He was planning to win against me while conserving his forces. That ticked me off.
By the way, the earlier Adris fight had been a normal money wager. I'd taken 10,000G. My share was 50%, so 5,000G.
In C-Class and above, you didn't always wager Garumon, so the wager conditions were set per match.
… This match was set at 10,000G too. Apparently that was the standard C-Class battle stake.
"You're not going to take Adelia back in your brother's place?"
"Heh, that is something Reichhardt should accomplish himself."
… True. Brotherly affection aside, he was cautious enough not to take needless risks.
… Which meant he'd probably be tough.
"Go, Amira, Emina, Namie."
"Go, Haru, Yuria, Lyuka!"
I'd wanted to try a one-Defender, two-Mage formation at least once.
The opponent: a White Knight and Black Knight protecting an adorable bunny-eared girl.
Mine: a Gardener protecting a White Mage and a Black Mage.
Strangely symmetrical lineups.
The white-armored knight and the black-armored knight were both considerable beauties, but as the system photos had shown, the bunny-eared Amira was even more beautiful.
Moon Rabbit… if I remembered right, one of the seven top-tier Beastkin rare subspecies, alongside Adelia's Nekomata and Leone's Inugami.
"… Showing my hand is a waste, but you're more troublesome than expected. Go, Amira.
"Defeat is not an option. Your duty is to crush both parties."
"Yes-y. Roger that, pyon."
Amira's reply was lazy.
"Amira, Madden Namie. Emina, All Protes."
"Haru, Wood Golem. Yuria, Dark Protect. Lyuka, Light's Blessing on Haru."
"Yes-y~. Namie~… go mad with the moon…! Lunatic!"
Ka!
"… Uoaaaaah! Blood Strike!"
The instant it triggered, Namie went berserk and unleashed an attack.
Pang! Klang!
A tremendous blow connected. But…
"Phew, close one."
Dark Protect blocked it. Three blocks like this would do the trick.
"Light's Blessing!"
Haru's Atk/Def UP. Haru was a Defender, so I'd thought the buff was wasted on him, but actually the Wood Golem he summoned shared Haru's stats.
It dealt medium-damage random 4-hit attacks.
So raising Atk/Def did matter. While Haru's skills were getting set up, Yuria and Lyuka would cover.
"Come! Golem!"
The summoned Golem attacked.
Shuba-bah!
Four hits. Two on Amira, one each on Emina and Namie at about 5%, dealing tiny damage.
… Eh, too weak? Even a Wood Golem with 30% buff should do about 20pt damage per hit.
If 20 was 5%, then HP would be 400. No way.
Was it the All Protes effect from earlier? … Looked like roughly 1/3 damage.
Eh, seriously? Wasn't that overpowered…? 3x defense for everyone!
And that defensive aura looked like it was carrying over across turns, too.
… But Kanan's 10-block defense was a lot more egregious. The enemy was finally using skills on the same level as ours.
The real fight started here.
"Emina, Holy Shield on Amira. Amira, Madden yourself."
"Haru, Drain Body. Yuria, Dark Saber. Lyuka, Shining."
… Now then, while Haru was setting up, Lyuka, doubled by Dark Saber, would burn them all down at maximum firepower.
"Yes-y~. Lunatic!"
Bashu! Amira's eyes blazed red and her whole body radiated light. Her stats obviously skyrocketed.
But Madden…? She didn't seem to be going berserk and attacking nonstop.
Apparently, unlike Namie, only her stats went up. She didn't lose control by going mad.
"Pyonpyon. Madness is a friend. It's a Moon Rabbit characteristic, pyon."
Maybe she could share without harm, since Amira told me that herself.
"Don't say unnecessary things!"
"I'm sorry, pyon…" Her bunny ears drooped sadly. Cute, even on the enemy's side.
Gaaan!
Namie's attack bounced off Dark Protect. I appreciated her only attacking once per turn.
"Shining!"
Now then, Lyuka's strongest light magic, doubled by Dark Saber. How much damage would it deal…?
Amira 8%
Emina 34%
Namie 68%
The dots were divided into 100, so by counting dots I could read off the remaining HP ratio.
Counting 34 or 68 dots in an instant took practice, but I'd improved a lot in these four months. Especially since 33 vs 34 dots was the line between dropping in 3 hits or 4.
Their remaining HP was 82%, 61%, and 27% respectively. That was a side note for now.
From the damage Lyuka had dealt, I could read:
… Base attack 50, Light effect 50% UP, Lyuka's high Magic, plus Dark Saber doubled it. With this much stacked attack, considerable big damage was a given… but compared to expectation, it was too low.
Emina was 1/3 of expectation, Namie 2/3, Amira 1/3 further reduced by 1/4.
All Protes, indeed dividing by 1/3.
Holy Shield, 1/4. Or 1/2 with Amira being Non-element. Namie was Demon-element with 2x super-effective. That made the math work.
The Wood Golem's 4-hit. Two on Namie, one each on the others, but Amira's damage was halved at 2%. Amira read as Non-element.
But Lasheid's action just now was odd. Why use Holy Shield on Amira instead of Namie?
There hadn't been any info that Lyuka was Light-element, had there? Well, since I'd used Light's Blessing, it was easy to guess.
Yet he'd put Holy Shield not on Namie but on Amira.
Even though Amira halved it and Namie took 2x.
Unnatural… Which meant.
"We can't beat Amira and Namie. Beating them triggers an explosion, or they don't die when beaten. They have some ability like that."
I gave my conjecture.
"Eh, ah, I see…! Right, the question is what kind of ability…"
Yuria caught on quickly and agreed with my conjecture. But she couldn't pin down the specifics.
"… In any case, before defeating them, let's weaken them with Yuria's Dark Sphere. Even if they explode, weakening them shouldn't hurt."
"Lyuka's idea adopted. Dark Sphere on Namie. Then Holy Light. Haru, Green Wall."
I issued instructions.
"Amira, Lunatic on Emina."
Lasheid's actions were prioritizing fully Maddening everyone. With this, he'd no longer even need to instruct anyone but Amira.
After Dark Sphere landed,
"Holy Light!"
Lyuka's attack.
Plus the Wood Golem's 4-hit. Two landed on Namie, dropping her HP to 0. The answer to my earlier question came quick.
What would happen…?
"Gaaaaaah!"
Namie's HP was 0, but she didn't fall…! She kept howling like she'd lost it.
"W-what…!?"
I'd predicted something would happen, but "doesn't die when killed" was beyond what I'd anticipated.
"While Maddened by Lunatic, until I fall, in battle they don't fall, pyon. The damage piles up afterwards, though~.
"So attacking from here is meaningless. The terror of zombie attacks from those who don't die when killed… feel it, pyon!"
Amira touted.
"Why do you keep explaining your abilities!"
Lasheid scolded, but…
"Amira wants Ra-chan to be a cool Master who wins fair and square, even after revealing his abilities, pyon!"
When Amira said that,
"… Tch!"
He gave up and let it slide… A heartwarming sight, even on the enemy's side.
… No time to be charmed. Zombie attacks. What was I supposed to do?
"Gaaah!"
Maddened Namie's attack. Gakiin!
Dark Protect bounced it back. That used the last one… but lasting three turns was plenty. More than I'd hoped.
"Foooo! Chaos Strike!"
Calm Emina raged forth and attacked.
… But Haru took a mere 1 damage. Huh? Weak.
After Drain Body recovered 5, damage was 0pt.
"… Tch, so it was hit-count defense, not turn defense…"
Lasheid noticed his choice mistake and bit back.
But the damage from Madden being only this much didn't seem to bother him.
Weak at first, gradually stronger… a stage-stacking buff? If so, troublesome.
"Yuria, Concentrate on Haru. Haru, Earth Barrier next. Defense is on you. Lyuka, Holy Light. At turn end."
"Mn… Earth Barrier!"
After that, if Haru held the line and we took out their side, we'd win. Concentrate focused Green Wall's 40% UP onto Haru alone, making it 120% UP.
Haru had 50% UP from his trait, so 170% UP total. 2.7x. Plus Earth Barrier doubled defense while active, for 5.4x. With this, even Maddened attacks were stoppable.
"Gaaah… Blood Strike!"
Finally on the fourth try, Namie's Blood Strike landed. Damage Haru took: 22.
"Erm…"
Working backwards, that put attack power at about 150. Madden… 3x boost?
Seriously? Even with the all-attack drawback, you'd want to use that.
With Drain Body's -5, 17 damage.
"Ohhhhh!"
Emina's attack looked tremendous, but only 2 damage again. Net 3 healed… But defense was 5.4x and damage had doubled from before?
I couldn't be optimistic. Things would get worse.
Whether we could whittle down Amira's remaining 76% HP, that was the question.
"Holy Light"
Bishi bishi bishi bishi! The Golem's attacks luckily landed twice, leaving 70%.
If I let this drag on at this pace and Emina's attack power kept doubling, how many turns could Haru last?
Could I drop her before then… In any case, the fight was going long. I'd land Dark Sphere on each of them at least once.
Next turn.
"Amira, end this. Venom Slash."
"Haru, Earth Barrier. Yuria, Dark Sphere on Amira. Lyuka, Holy Light."
"Pyon, Venom Slash!"
Amira's attack. A normally scary attack: slashing with knife in hand. The sharp blade tore into Haru-kun.
"Kuh…!"
Damage itself was low. About 3pt. Drain Body actually healed him. But "end this" gave me a chill. One landed hit ending things. Venom meant poison. Don't tell me…
"… Ra-chan, no good! My poison doesn't work!"
… But Amira dispelled my fear.
"Tch, troublesome! You'd countered me!"
Countered? Just a coincidence… but did Haru have Poison Resistance? Haru's trait was Defense UP.
"… Probably a personality matter. Moon Rabbits use insanity-related techniques, so it brings out the Garumon's ferocity, that kind of thing."
Yuria analyzed.
Ferocity in Haru… no way.
"I see, so even a Garumon's personality affects combat."
"That's right. If he were a hot-blooded type, it could've been dangerous."
A Defender berserking and going all-attack… that would've ended us. We'd dodged a bullet.
What about Kanan?
Namie's attacks settled at about 17 damage, but Haru was getting used to her too.
He parried well, holding it to 14 damage.
At absolute best he could push it down to 6. Repeat enough times and he'd surely manage.
The problem was Emina's attack… 5 damage. So plus-minus 0. But… it kept doubling.
Time was running short.
Next turn.
"Can't be helped. Long game it is. Amira, Venom Slicer."
"Yes-y~"
Amira gripped what looked like nata machetes in both hands. And then, two strikes.
Zan zan! 6-6 for 12 damage. Even with Drain Body, that was a real hit.
… Slowly being whittled down.
We were both stuck in low-damage chip-trading, a long-game posture.
Our maximum damage was Dark Sabering Lyuka's Shining. Last time was 8 dots of damage, but with Dark Sphere now, 10 dots was reasonable.
There was the play of putting it on the Golem too. 2pt doubled to 4 or 5. If the random 4-hit landed well, 16-20 damage. But that was random. Too convenient.
… Tch, Amira was way too tough!
We were locked in stalemate. Their attacks doubled each turn, so stalemate suited them…
"But mastering a slow-tempo match like this is what shows real ability.
"… Haru. Keep your defense tight. Aim to halve damage as much as possible.
"Whatever happens, after we put Dark Sphere on Emina next turn, we'll settle into the long game.
"Wood Golem too, count on you. We're depending on you."
"Yes!"
The three replied properly. The Golem didn't reply.
Then a few more turns of the same.
"Golem-kun, Dark Saber!" "Holy Light!"
Attacks went onto the Golem. Unstable, but I wanted Lyuka recovering.
A few turns later, Emina's HP also hit 0. But it didn't matter much. Death didn't seem to stop the attack-doubling, and the zombie attacks continued.
Emina's attacks were entering dangerous territory. About time.
"… Lyuka."
"Roger. Light Shield!"
Kakiin!
Yeah, for the next 5 turns, Lyuka's Light Shield could just block Emina's attacks.
Excluding Emina's attacks, with Haru's defense holding the rest, Drain Body and Holy Light recovered enough that damage stayed manageable. Haru's HP barely dropped from 40.
Meanwhile, thanks to the Golem's hard work, Amira's HP was down to 21 dots. If 4 hits landed well, that was 20 damage in one go. Settlement could come at any moment.
… The situation tilted heavily in our favor.
Still, I didn't think it'd end like this. So I kept Light Shield in reserve, hoping he'd think he could win as is…
"Tch, this'll just bleed me out. Can't be helped… go. Luna Breaker."
"Yes-y~. Luna Breaker!"
He played some kind of trump card.
"All right, I read it! Yuria, Dark Protect, count on you!"
"OK, leave it to me!"
Anticipating that, I'd had Yuria take a defensive stance.
"Shaaaa!"
Amira used Venom Slicer. But it was 4 hits!
Zan, zan, zan, zan!
"Kuh…!"
Haru-kun blocked well, but… the other two's attack-count doubling was bad news.
"Dark Protect!" "Light Shield!"
The two barriers held, blocking the damage.
"… If doubling attack count came risk-free, he'd have used it sooner. It probably doesn't last many turns…"
Settlement before then. With us winning, of course.
Next turn, Dark Protect and Light Shield blocked Emina and Namie again. Dark Protect ran out. The Golem's attacks landed nicely, leaving only 10 dots to go.
Next would be the last.
"Damn you! Fall, pyon!"
Amira moved first. But she didn't fall from this. The problem was the other two.
The Golem could move next. Lyuka's Shining could finish for sure, but slow.
What to do? Dark Saber on the Golem to land 2 hits. Ideal.
So far, the Golem had landed 2 or more hits on Amira almost every turn, which got us this far.
But probabilistically it was 1.3 per turn. We'd been clearly above expectation. Would the luck hold to the end?
… If we couldn't drop her, Emina's attack was now beyond calculation. One hit meant instant death.
"… Whatever. Trust that the convenient roll keeps coming, gamble. That's gaming.
"Yuria, Dark Saber on Golem-kun! After that, on you!"
"Dark Saber! Go, Golem-kun!"
"… Do your best!"
And the Golem, carrying our prayers, landed 2 hits on Amira. Bishi bishi!
"Im… possible…"
The instant Amira's HP hit 0,
Shuuuu…
Namie and Emina collapsed. They couldn't get up anymore.
"Mn… can't believe Luna Breaker didn't finish them…"
"Should've used it one turn earlier."
"Luna Breaker only lasts 3 turns, pyon… when it ends, Namie and Emina go down. Hard to find the right timing, pyon…"
Amira told me that as she fell.
"… Truly…"
Lasheid clutched his head over Amira.
"That I, of all people, would be dragged out to the rear…"
"I told you, didn't I? That I'd be the winner."
"But… don't get cocky! I will be the winner! Out, Safa, Fimi, Quora!"
LV50 Dragonkin Safa Value 7400
LV50 Beastkin Weretiger Fimi Value 5300
LV50 Healer Quora Value 5600
What appeared was…
"I'll do it, gao!"
Tiger girl Fimi. Weretiger, also one of the seven Beastkin top-tier subspecies.
"My Lord, I dedicate victory to you."
Healer Quora.
And…
"Hoh. Did not think I would be stepping out…"
What appeared was…
"But you have nothing to regret. To be slain by the dragon's fang is rather an honor. Take pride in it."
Safa was… a Dragonkin.
Dragonkin… Dragon-element, with resistance to almost every element except Ice. Strong by sheer typing.
I'd never seen one in D-rank or below. This was my first.
Like Amira, Safa was an extremely beautiful girl. By value, also UR-Class.
Haru, Lyuka, and Yuria were already battered, but at least info-gathering was a help.
"Hang in there to the last."
"Mn… of course! For Naoto-kun… I'll keep going till I drop!"
"No need to hold back. We Garumon are here to fight."
"Of course, the reward for winning had better be generous…!"
Reliable.
Haru's Earth Shield had 3 left.
Lyuka had 4 Shinings. Holy Light still available.
Yuria had 1 Dark Saber left.
Golem-kun was here.
I'd hold out until I'd used these up.
"Haru, Earth Barrier. Lyuka, Shining, Yuria, Dark Saber!"
"Trample them, Safa! Dragon Power!
"Fimi, Tiger Power! Quora, Elder Heal!"
Do…! Do…!! Both Fimi and Safa visibly powered up. Then…
"Shining!"
The buffed magic attack detonated. But…
10% damage to Safa, 12% to Fimi, 25% to Quora. Dragon Power and Tiger Power, Atk/Def 2x maybe. Damage was clearly halved. Elements: Dragon, Non, Non, probably? Both halved Light. Lyuka had bad type matching.
The Golem hit Safa for 7%, Fimi twice for 16%, Quora once for 15%. Pretty good damage.
End of turn…
"Elder Heal"
A slowest-cast all-target heal. Damage of 7, 18, 30 each. All clearly healed 10%.
We could fight a bit, but winning out from here looked impossible. Still, I wanted to land Yuria's Dark Sphere.
"Now, go. Dragon Claw. Tiger Claw. Elder Heal."
"Earth Barrier, Holy Light, Yuria, Dark Sphere on Safa!"
Zugya, zugya!
Safa landed 20 damage, Fimi 15.
A single skill, on par with Madden's attack boost… too strong. Haru wouldn't last another turn.
Damage: 10, 6, 56%. Only Quora took meaningful damage.
"Yuria, Dark Sphere on Fimi. Lyuka, Shining. Haru, Golem-kun, hang in there!"
"Tiger Claw"
"… Kuh!"
Haru's HP barely a sliver.
"Well-endured up to here. But this is the end. Dragon Claw!"
Zugaaan!
"Naoto… kun…"
"Haru…! Thank you, you did great."
Crash…
Haru fell…
But landing Dark Sphere on both Safa and Fimi, his role had been more than fulfilled.
"This is as far as you go."
"Oh? If you think the two of us and Golem-kun could deal at least some damage, you're welcome to use us up to the last."
"Thanks. When that time comes I will… Right now, we can't deal more damage than Quora can heal."
"Truly Naoto-san. Cold, decisive judgment, worthy of respect… Next time I'll be more useful."
"No, you were plenty useful. Good work. Member change."
"If you lose… I won't forgive you, you know…"
"Yuria… naturally."
Lose… I wouldn't forgive myself. From here on, even one loss meant death.
That was the resolve I fought with.
"Now, Kanan, Adelia, Maika! Bring me victory!"
It was about to begin… Round 2.
"Such a low-level lineup. At this point, surrendering would be wiser, you know."
"… Unfortunately, these three are my longest-tenured regulars. I'll be the winner."
Not sour grapes. I had a plan to win.
Two turns of Accel Mirage. That alone, and…
"We're winning, Kanan. Wind's Blessing."
"Of course! Now, behold my dance!"
"Maika, Accel Mirage on Quora!"
"Got it!"
"Adelia, Boost Power!"
"Yes nya! I won't lose to a tiger girl, nya!"
"Heh… small fries. Trample them. Tiger Claw, Dragon Claw, Elder Heal."
Kin, kin!
… Wind Shield blocked the dreadful attacks that would've ended us in one hit.
Hmm, ridiculous.
Accel Mirage on Quora… but just barely couldn't drop her.
… What bothered me was that no one had Covered her at all. Healers normally got Covered as a matter of course.
To ignore that… she had a death-triggered skill, didn't she?
For now, no more attacking Quora.
"Tch, a guaranteed-block skill. Troublesome… can't be helped. Go, Safa. Dragon Aura."
"… If we must."
Gogogogogo…
More power gathered into her arms.
Light radiated from her whole body, carrying a sense of dread… or something like that.
"… Heheheh, let me tell you. This is a piercing + guaranteed-hit-imbuing skill.
"From here on, all defenses are smashed. One of the secret arts of Dragonkin, the rulers of this world.
"Before the great dragon, the defenses of small insects mean nothing!"
Safa proclaimed.
"… Why, then, do you always feed information to enemies!"
"Brother! It is the path of a king to reveal information and crush them head-on!"
The argument between Lasheid and Safa was a bit charming.
Kin!
Fimi's attack, blocked by Kanan.
"What are you doing? Slip past such small fry and attack the Attacker!"
"Gao… apologies…"
Fimi shrank in. Well, blocked by a normal Cover with no draw-in, you'd want to complain.
But Kanan had honed this thoroughly.
She'd Cover anything but guaranteed-hit attacks.
"Gale Dance, Accel Mirage!"
Maika attacked Safa. 1 hit… 2 hits… 3 hits! Nice, as planned. Set.
Turn 3.
"Adelia, Fire Boost, Flame Claw!"
"Nyaaah!"
"Nu!"
Dogooo!
A ferocious flame inferno blazed over and hit Safa.
… But Safa's HP only dropped by about 1/3.
"Hahaha! Storing power to the limit, hoping to pierce the dragon's defense! But that Nekomata is Fire-element. Halved by the dragon's defense, no matter how much you build, it's meaningless!"
Safa pronounced.
"Tiger Claw!"
"I told you I wouldn't allow it!"
Kaan!
Kanan blocked it for Quora.
"Hahaha! Well-endured to here! But all in vain! Now, trample them.
"Dragon's claw! Safa, Dragon Claw. Crush that girl!"
"Aye! Now, dedicate victory to my brother!"
Safa raised a fist. Guaranteed-hit + piercing meant 2-3x attack power… 100-150 damage easily. One hit would end her. But…
Piki-piki… saaaaaa…
A chill… filled the air.
"Wha… you… no, Ice-element!? Tch… my sole weakness, you…"
Maika took a stance. Hands straight forward. And…
"… Gale Dance"
She vanished.
"Wha…!?"
A skill that doubled speed for one turn while triggering a different skill. The skill she fired was…
"Icicle Zapper!"
Single-target massive damage + slip damage, a powerful magic.
Zan!
A massive ice pillar pierced Safa… But it fell a bit short of Adelia's earlier hit.
"Guha…! But this much… before my Dragon Power, all attacks lose effect. Even Ice. Insufficient magic, little girl… ng!"
Her eyes went wide in shock.
"Icicle Zapper!"
The 2nd shot.
Zan!
Pierced again.
"Im… possible…"
The 3rd…!
Zan!
"Guhaa… but I… I held on, I survived! If with one strike I take down even just the Defender, after that…!"
And then…
The 4th!
"Whaaaaat!?"
Safa… I'd known about Dragon-element's weakness. Of course Ice. Famous.
But there was one more thing… her movements were quite slow.
Stats probably maxed in Strength and Defense.
In which case, "Speed" or "Skill" got the short end and was low.
That was system-level information you could predict.
And from their Speed-based action order… it was definitely sub-40.
If Yuria's Dark Sphere shaved 20% off stats, Speed would drop below 30.
Maika using Accel Mirage once, then Gale Dance, doubled Speed 4x for 3 attacks.
On the boosted Speed, using Gale Dance again brought us to 8x, just barely over the threshold…
possibly.
The bet… succeeded!
"Icicle Zapper!"
Zan…!
A massive-damage 4-hit!
… All for the use of a single skill. This world's Speed system was always weird.
Well, thanks to that we could close the gap…
Even with all this, without Adelia's hit it wouldn't have been enough. Dragonkin Safa's strength had been considerable. From now on, I couldn't neglect Speed.
"Im… possible… aaaah!"
Crash…! Safa fell. But…
"Ohhhh!"
She held on, rose again.
1 dot left. Endure!
Safa's HP was 1. Even so, she'd survived…
"Haa, haa… I… I… don't mock me! For me, the king-dragon, to end without crushing even one small insect, unthinkable!
"… At least this one…!"
"… A-aaaah…!"
Kanan… froze, unable to move.
"Heh, before Dragon Aura, all must bow… down.
"Now, I'll crush you…!"
Safa raised her hand. And… brought it down! One touch and it was over. But…
"The only one Kanan bows to is me.
"Otherworld Wind!"
The next moment, she'd teleported to my hand.
"Wha…!? My guaranteed-hit attack, missed…!?"
Safa's strike whiffed.
"Fun skill, isn't it. Dodge or defend at will…"
"… Y-yes! A skill I devised so I can rush to Naoto's side at any moment!"
And Kanan, hugging me outside the battlefield, boasted.
"Impossible… guhah!"
End-of-turn slip damage hit four times, and Safa fell.
"… Quora, recovery! Resurrection on Safa!"
"Master, but my Resurrection isn't 100%…"
"Do it!"
"… Understood. Resurrection!"
"Gh… uuh…"
Safa revived. But HP at 1.
"Continuing… Quora, kill yourself. Ultimate Heal!"
"… Yes, understood."
… Eh? Quora drove a knife into her own heart and fell.
The next moment, a sparkling recovery aura filled the area.
Safa and Fimi were fully healed.
"Gh… ohhh! How dare you put me through such humiliation…
"I'll trample you! Dragon Breath!"
Boaaaah!
"Behind me… aaah!"
Strong…! 70 damage to Kanan. Adelia and Maika took less due to position, but still 50%+.
… Eh, if you had a skill like that, why not use it from the start? I had to wonder.
Maybe a condition. Like only available after Endure activated.
Thanks to which…
"Icicle Zapper!"
"Flame Claw!"
This time, with no Endure to worry about, we delivered the finisher.
"… Impossible… I… defeated… my apologies… brother…"
Safa fell.
"Impossibleeeee!
"Safa, the symbol of my power, the Dragonkin, gooooooone! D-d-don't fuck around with meeeee! Safa is my younger sister! Born of the same father Leonhardt and mother, the Holy Dragon King Aji-da, royal blood lineageeee!"
Lasheid was screaming in distress. Safa falling had clearly been a shock.
… Even on the enemy side, that depth of love for a Garumon wasn't bad. Quora had been pitiable, though.
"I see…"
For now, his fury was understandable. If Setsuna fell, I'd rage the same way. And… I'd absolutely kill the opponent.
"So in the same way, we'll just crush you with everything we have."
That said, only Fimi was left. And without a guaranteed-hit + piercing skill on Fimi's side…
"Icicle Zapper!"
Maika's attack just barely left her alive. Fimi's attack was blocked by Kanan. The finisher was Adelia.
"Nya! I won't lose to a fellow Beastkin, nya!"
"Hi… aaaaaah!"
Dogoooooo!
Fimi was apparently Wind-element. 2x super-effective.
… With the LV gap, no surviving. Adelia could've won alone.
Ice and fire…
That you couldn't win when type-countered, Lasheid had been on the mark about that.
"… I, I… to common scum…!"
Lasheid lay prostrate.
His phrasing was unpleasant, but I understood the shock of losing.
I didn't want to be friends, but he wasn't exactly a bad guy.
A tough opponent.
… Thus, the C-Class representative for the B-Class swap match was decided. I'd be challenging B-Class as C-Class number 1.
